I have a confession. I’m not done Christmas shopping, not by a long shot. I also haven’t put the Christmas lights up on the outside of the house. I haven’t baked any cookies at all. Not one batch.
It’s three days away.
So when I came home the other night, I found that the Butterfly had taken it upon herself to decorate. She couldn’t put the lights on the outside of our house, so she did the next best thing.
She decorated Barbie’s Town House.
Last year, we had a Barbie Christmas. The Princess was so obsessed with playing Barbie’s that she insisted that everyone get a new doll so we could all play with her on demand.
This is what they looked like:
Pretty right? I didn’t fight this. I had my Barbie phase as a child. Is that not totally obvious? This one is mine:
I’m getting my act together today. Well, no, it will have to be tomorrow. Today I had a doctor’s appointment and a Christmas party with our homeschool group, which we had to leave early because the Butterfly was feeling sick.
And then I came home to this in my driveway.
I guess it was a little windy while I was out? I’m going to leave the job of clearing it to Wilderness Dad. He loves an opportunity to play with his chainsaw.
Does that sound wrong to you?
First thing tomorrow I will work out the remaining details for our Christmas celebration. I can do it, right? A little shopping, a little cooking, a little decorating and I’ll be all set.
It makes me wonder, if I can actually pull this off in three days, why does it typically take me a month?
And just in case I don’t make it back before the holiday, I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, filled with peace and love and light. And cookies. Oh, and wine too. Lots of wine.
