Death Scene by annalynnmarie.deviantart.com CC
I walked into the family room and found the Adventurer (13) teary eyed on the couch, computer in her lap.
“What’s wrong?”
“I had to kill off my favorite character in my story. It was an epic death scene but it made me so sad to have to kill her.”
She’s been absorbed in this story she’s writing for more than 2 months now. I asked her to email me the scene so I could read it and add it to her homeschool portfolio.
It is epic. And sad. And incredibly well written.
I am amazed by her. I always have been. It may seem like something small, simply a scene written, but in a way it is a tremendous victory. It speaks volumes to me, that our approach to homeschooling writing – more like unschooling writing – is working.
It helps me breathe easier. Beyond her tears, I could also see her joy in having written.
I hate writing, I love having written. -Dorothy Parker
