I saw the world with fresh eyes this morning. Everywhere my gaze landed glistened with a sprinkle of snow, the first of the season. Instead of dreading winter and complaining (as I typically do), I enjoyed it a little.
I enjoyed it because all day long, as we drove her sisters from place to place, my little Princess chatted about how excited she is about winter. {How could she be mine?} She can’t wait for more snow. Christmas is going to be awesome. Don’t you love the feeling of cold air in your nose, Mom?
Umm. Of course?
Today was like every other day here. And it was special too. My Princess was happy and excited, not just about winter approaching, but about life. It’s contagious.
Excitement.
Sometimes we lose that sense of adventure, that excitement for living. Everything around us goes dim. What do you need to bring it back? A day with a seven year-old who thinks winter is awesome? A fresh awareness of what you want to be doing with your time? Is it an attitude adjustment? A new project or learning experience? Is it simply in the search, the journey and the drive to move forward?
If we do not find anything pleasant, at least we shall find something new. Johann Friedrick von Shiller
All I did today was drive around. I drove up and down the same roads I always travel, but I noticed details in a new way. I realized that my excessive thinking (obsessing) about writing was getting in the way of all the things that compel me write.
I think I’m ready to write again. If I could just sleep less or hire a chauffeur for my kids I’d have the time to match the inspiration. Ah. It’s a start.
I want to write but more than that I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie buried deep in my heart. Anne Frank
I look at this beautiful home every time I walk out of Edmond Town Hall in Newtown. I’ve seen it at least twice a week for the past two years. How is it that I only noticed it today?
It makes me wonder – what else am I missing? What are you missing?
