Looking at this photo, I can’t help but smile and feel a little pain in my gut.
I heard from my youngest daughter today that there is a character in the My Little Pony series named “Bittersweet.” She told me that she will be super nice, then mean a second later. She was wondering if that was what bittersweet really means.
I clarified the definition for her.
bittersweet: pleasure accompanied by suffering or regret
The little women in the picture are now teens (17 and 13). I loved them at that age, I love them at this age, but the regret? I only wonder, did I treasure those moments?
I hope that I did. You would think that I did, since I took the photo, but the truth is I can’t remember this day specifically. We had so many days at the barn when they were younger. And I remember them all being happy.
My youngest loved to wander and visit with the other animals at the farm, or pick flowers. 
She was a little over a year old here.
And there’s that pain again.
Bittersweet, definitely.
